Social Justice

Look for FUUSN members at the Newton Centre Stand-out for Democracy every Saturday at noon. Look for our red hats and listen for us singing!

Our liberal faith is grounded in Justice, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Interdependence and Generosity with love at the center.

Guided by ‘deeds not creeds’, we live out our faith in our many justice activities in order to create a better world for all.  Join us in our Social Justice Speaker Series, Racial Justice Ministry, Action for Democracy, Climate Action Task Force and Rainbow Umbrella efforts and service projects!

Coordinates FUUSN’s efforts to put our faith into action through social justice work in our communities and wider world.

Members are active in five different task forces and welcome people’s participation at any level in these as well as new projects. The Social Justice Council (SJC), which is comprised of leaders of all task forces, meets with the full committee as needed and these meetings are open to all in the congregation to observe. We nurture our spirits and put our faith into action through social justice work in our communities and the wider world. FUUSN members are proud of our many decades of social action, yet so much remains to be done.  In the hope of making our efforts simple, transparent, and accessible, FUUSN’s many Social Justice groups are divided into Five Task Forces.  Please email socialaction@fuusn.org with any ideas, questions, or if you want to be involved!

Racial Justice Ministries

Racial Justice Ministries

The Purpose of the FUUSN Racial Justice Ministry is to inspire, educate, support and equip FUUSN’s leadership and membership, including ourselves, for vital and vibrant racial justice and anti-oppression engagement in our congregation and in our larger community.

Environmental & Climate

Environmental & Climate

The world is already experiencing more severe droughts, storms, fires and heat waves causing loss of life, loss of habitat, changes in food and water systems, and forced migration. In keeping with our 7th principle that acknowledges and respects the interdependent web of existence, of which we are a part, our Climate Action Task Force helps educate our congregants and gives them opportunities to take individual and collective action.

FUUSN Action for Democracy

FUUSN’s Action for Democracy Team helps FUUSN members engage in activism to protect, restore and re-build our democracy.

Rainbow & Welcoming - Radical Inclusion

Rainbow & Welcoming - Radical Inclusion

The Radical Inclusion team seeks to dismantle barriers to belonging by centering marginalized voices and practicing radical hospitality. Our mission is to transform our UU community into a space where every person is fully seen, deeply valued, and spiritually empowered.

FUUSN is committed to serving the most marginalized and the most vulnerable. For ten months of the year, FUUSN splits its collection at its weekly worship service with a vetted 501 c 3 non-profit organization serving local, state, national, or international needs. The members of the congregation vote on the recipients each year. The process assures that there is a balance of local/state, national, and international organizations represented. Only FUUSN members can vote on the organizations to be supported. Voting generally takes place in the spring.
